Poems of the lost
LXVI
I sent my soul through the invisible.
Some letter of the Afterlife to spell:
And by and by my soul returned to me,
And answered, “ I myself am Heaven and Hell.”
~ Omar Khayyam
Worth While
It is easy enough to be pleasant, when life flows by like a song.
But the man worth while is one who will smile , when everything right goes wrong.
For the test of the heart is trouble, and it always comes with the years, and the smile that is worth the praises of earth is the smile that shines through tears.
It is easy enough to be prudent, when nothing tempts you to stray.
When without or within no voice of sin is luring your soul away;
But it’s only a negative virtue until it is tried by fire,
and the life that is worth the honor of earth is the one that resists desire…
By the cynic, the sad, the fallen, who had no strength for the strife.
The world’s highway is cumbered to-day; they, make up the sum of life.
But the virtue that conquers passion, and the sorrow that hides in a smile…
It is these that are worth the homage on earth for we find them but once in a while.

Persephone’s Symphony:
I’ve tried to hold onto your vision
I’ve tried to reach beyond the grave
That you left me in
You died a martyr
You died for a dream
You asked me what I live for
I said, “You.”
You said I must live for more.
We are the pioneers
We carve the surface for their pride
What good does it do for us?
To die away, leaving our family
You said to die for a dream
For freedom, you’d suffer the guillontine,
I disagree.
I know you are the only thing I ever need
But now you’re hanging there, so I’ll concede
I will fight
For my heart
That you left with me to scar
I will fight
For your dream
God of Aries will fight with me
Let’s attend the institute
I’m prepared
Colored golden but my eyes see red
Golden rays but bloody shadow
Red is the color of war, don’t you know?
They made me kill an innocent boy.
But it is a kill or be killed kind of world
So I’ll tell his brother that I’m on his side
Yet I cannot meet his golden eyes
What do you fight for and die for?
Was it a dream like Persephone’s Symphony?
I will never back down
I will fight Gods themselves
Watch me destroy Olympus, if that’s what it takes
Olympus is down
Cities on the ground
Blood of the innocent
I’ve won the crown
I’ve won the war
But what for?
I’ve only been playing their game, nothing more
So what now?
What can I do?
How do I show Persephone’s song is’nt yet through?
But too bad
I’m all that is left of her dream
And I will see that it succeeds.
How do I know what I am fighting for?

Wings in the Water:
I thought I wanted wings…
I thought I wanted to fly…
Flying would bring me freedom;
Flying would bring me true life
I thought I wanted wings…
With the ocean of blue around me;
with the blue that I inhaled and became
I thought I wanted to fly…
But all I want now,
is to know how to swim
For what good are wings,
when you’re drowning underwater…
